# Disconnecting Xero

> How to disconnect a Xero organisation, what happens to your data, and how to reconnect.

You can disconnect Xero from Ledgitify whenever you like. You're always in control of the connection,
both from within Ledgitify and from within Xero itself.

## Disconnect from Ledgitify

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Xero settings">
    Go to **Settings → Xero**. Disconnecting requires the **Owner** or **Admin** role.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose Disconnect">
    Select **Disconnect** and confirm. Ledgitify immediately **revokes its access in Xero** and
    removes the stored access token.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Disconnect from within Xero

You can also revoke Ledgitify's access from **Xero → your name → Connected apps**. Ledgitify detects
the revoked connection on its next sync, stops syncing, and clears the stored token, and emails the
organisation's owner and admins with a prompt to reconnect if they still need it.

## What happens to your data

* **Syncing stops.** No further transactions are pulled from Xero.
* **Your work stays.** The projects, budget lines, allocations, and reports you've already built
  remain in Ledgitify. Disconnecting doesn't delete your budgeting work.
* **Cached Xero data is removed** in line with our
  [Privacy Policy](https://ledgitify.com/legal/privacy) (cached Xero transaction data is deleted
  within 30 days of disconnection).

## Reconnecting

To resume syncing, open **Settings → Xero** and choose **Connect Xero organisation** again. If you're
reconnecting the same organisation, disconnect it on the Xero side first if Xero reports it's still
linked, then reconnect from Ledgitify.

<Note>
  Reconnecting picks up where you left off. Your existing allocations and reports are untouched, and
  the next sync backfills anything that changed while you were disconnected.
